Neon Sparks

Privacy policy

The short version

Who we are

Neon Sparks (nspk.uk) is run by Malcolm Christopher in the United Kingdom, who is responsible for your information under UK data protection law (the UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). You can contact me at inquiries@nspk.uk.

What this policy covers

This policy covers the nspk.uk website: the home page, this page, the contact page and the site map. Each app on nspk.uk also has its own, more detailed privacy notice, summarised below. If an app's notice says something more specific, that notice applies to that app.

Pub Quiz Generator and Neon Game Cave are separate websites with their own privacy information.

The apps, in brief

Classroom Quiz Generator and Smart Owl Quiz

Quizzes and results are saved on the teacher's own device. Pupils give only a first name, nickname or team name, which goes to the teacher's device. Smart Owl Quiz leaderboards show only the nickname a player chooses. Visits are counted anonymously, without cookies, using a code that changes every day. Read the full Classroom Quiz Generator and Smart Owl Quiz privacy notice.

Neon Sparks Write

Your documents and settings are stored only in your browser, on your device. Nothing you write is uploaded. No cookies, no analytics. Read the full Neon Sparks Write privacy notice.

Neon Sparks Sheets

Your workbooks and settings are stored only in your browser, on your device. Nothing is uploaded. No cookies, no analytics. Read the full Neon Sparks Sheets privacy notice.

The nspk.uk home and information pages

These pages don't ask for any personal information, don't run analytics or advertising scripts and don't set cookies of their own. When you visit, the following services handle your request:

If you email us

When you write to inquiries@nspk.uk, I receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you put in the message. I use this only to reply to you and to fix any problem you report. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in answering your enquiry.

Emails are kept for as long as they're needed to deal with your enquiry and any follow-up, and are normally deleted within 12 months. They're stored with my email provider and are never sold, shared for marketing or added to a mailing list.

Links to X (Twitter), Buy Me a Coffee and our partner sites take you to services with their own privacy policies. Nothing about you is passed to them by nspk.uk; they only see your visit once you follow the link.

Children

The classroom apps are made for use in schools under a teacher's supervision. Pupils don't create accounts, and we never ask them for full names, email addresses or phone numbers. We suggest pupils use first names or nicknames only. Children shouldn't email us themselves; a parent, carer or teacher can contact us on their behalf.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, have it corrected or deleted, object to how it's used, or ask for it to be restricted. Because the apps keep your files on your own device, in most cases you control that information directly: clearing the site's data in your browser removes it.

To make a request, email inquiries@nspk.uk. If you're unhappy with how your information has been handled, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), though I'd appreciate the chance to put things right first.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new "last updated" date.
